Trainer's Details

Vanessa Cecil spent close to 17 years with moderately severe ME/Chronic Fatigue, during which she pursued – when health allowed – all manner of ME cures and treatments in the search for recovery. It came eventually in the form of a neurolinguistic programming (NLP)-based training and she rapidly went from wheelchair to walking boots, dancing shoes and skis.

She qualified in Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), hypnotherapy, Mindfulness-Based Neurolinguistic Programming (MBNLP), Humanistic Neurolinguistic Psychology (HNLP), Psych-K (PK) and the Lightning Process® (LP) and was an advanced LP trainer, and studied Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with the University of Bangor. Based at Exeter University's Innovation Centre, she works in the UK and overseas with a range of people with ME/CFS, anxiety disorders and pain syndromes – people of all ages, duration of illness and levels of incapacity, including severely ill, bedbound clients.

She delivers comprehensive and flexible training using not only her therapeutic skills but also her background in college teaching, training young adults in the workplace preparing educational material for the Medical Research Council, and writing on health and disability issues for national publications.

Her therapeutic work has featured in the press and BBC, been the subject of the documentary film Thomas, been recorded by the Exceptional Cases Register of the Department of Complementary Therapy at the University of Tromsø and been recognised by a WAM business award. She receives referrals from doctors and other health professionals, holds a diploma in NLP and hypnotherapy, is a certified practitioner of MBNLP, a certified practitioner of HNLP, a member of the British Institute of Hypnotherapy, eligible for membership of The American Board of Neurolinguistic Programming.
