Nickie Moates from South Devon had been ill for 3 years when she did The ME Recovey System training. Five months later she says: "Although not fit yet I am able to enjoy life again, running on the beach, playing football with my son - just being a mum again instead of a spectator. So I have gone from being a couch potato to being involved in all activities. She is building fitness in the gym and with the help of a new Wii. "I was sceptical of this training course but it has given me a life again - a better life than before because of what I learnt on the course".

Anna B from Devon developed ME/CFS after viral meningitis and spent 7 years with little stamina, poor concentration and serious memory lapses. By the third day of the training she was feeling "brilliant" and 6 months later she says of her recovery: "It's rather like putting the clock back 10 years. I am functioning now almost as well as I did then with only natural wearing out of the body to contend with rather than illness. I am much more independent as I can drive again...and I am able to do a lot more physical work on the farm.

The greatest change, and the one that I value the most, is that I have a bubble of happiness inside me where once there was a black hole and I can feel that happiness spreading out and colouring everything I do."

Samantha Todd from the South of England rated her energy levels and ability to walk at about 33% before taking the course; when reporting back 10 weeks later she rated both at 100%. In the meantime she had had a 'dip' but was able to use what she had learnt to bring herself out of it. She has increased her working hours, resumed rock climbing, worked 'strenuously', as she puts it, in her garden and done more socially. Of the training she writes that it was: "very well thought out...it had the gentle persuasion that I needed. The course picked me up from the floor and stood me up again. I wrote a text to myself on how I felt before the course and another on how I felt a week later. I couldn't believe the difference!"

Emma McKillop from Northern Ireland writes: "My life has changed dramatically beyond recognition! In the past I woke feeling exhausted and unwell, went to work, came home and had dinner prepared by mum, then into bed, often before 8pm. Now I have great health, I have the confidence and ability to do whatever I want! From the first day of the training I gained a great energy and felt like everything around me was brighter, like a blanket had been lifted around me. 3 weeks after the training I got an offer to go to Glasgow to study a Masters and due to my great health I was delighted to accept. So now I am studying and working part-time, I do all my own cooking and cleaning and am again independent. In the past this would not have been an option. I feel so grateful and almost take it for granted as it now is so normal.

I enjoyed the follow up sessions as they reminded me how much I had achieved. People at home have commented to my family that they have seen me out and about a lot and that I look so well, and wonder what I have done to achieve the amazing results.

This wonderful experience has changed my life in so many ways!"

Michelle in Northern Ireland was severely affected by ME and had been confined to bed for 11 years receiving 24 hour care, unable to move, to eat, to see or to have any interaction with people for more than a few minutes at a time. After the training she is on her way to recovery - gradually raising her bed to an upright position, being washed, working at physiotherapy exercises and regaining mobility, tolerating sounds, welcoming visitors and making long, jokey phone calls. Her cortisol levels have normalised.

"I couldn't have done this without the training. I now know that there is a life ahead"

Meg, a one-time teacher from Bristol, developed ME after a series of operations followed by an infection. After 7 years of incapacity she did the therapeutic training course and learnt how to regain her health.

"The first day was a revelation and I was excited to discover that I could change how I felt so easily. I hadn’t really expected to feel well by the end of the course but found that I could do so much more that by the next week I was 80 or 90% well; I’d only been about 45% before. Now, 6 weeks on, I would say that I’m completely well, busy all the time, doing things I haven’t done in years."

Company director SB of Devon had been ill for 2 years following a bout of glandular fever when he did the training. He was about 55% well at the start of the course and more than 95% by the following week.

"I am feeling better now than I have done for years, and I mean 10 - 15 years. Mentally I'm great, just the body needs to remember what a full day is like! I sometime wonder why an ache hasn't disappeared, then the next thing I know it has. I think any aches are due to the body reacting to things it hasn't done for ages. It's great to have my life back!"

Katie came for training because she was experiencing chronic back pain many years after an injury had healed.

"I had tried everything and was suspicious at first that the training would be another disappointment but it all made sense – and it worked! I wouldn’t say that my back is 100% yet but I am doing a lot, exercising every day, being a mum to my children and am so proud of what I’ve achieved. The pain used to rule my life but now I assume that I can do things."
